July 4 - 5, 2015: Water Trial at Camp Lael

The Great Lakes PWD Club hosted another great Independence Weekend of water trials on July 4th and 5th at Camp Lael near Lapeer, Michigan.  Thank you to everyone that pitched in to help, and to everyone that came to compete.  With special thanks to Judge Catherine Gadd for her patience and kind advice for all competitors, qualifiers or not; to Trial Secretary Melissa Liebaert; to tireless Chief Stewards Pat and Roy Vokes; to world-class chefs Scott Lenz and David Swank (we eat better than any other trial); and to Dale and Laurie Drerup for bringing their famous barbeque for Friday’s dinner.

Special note should be taken of Pat Vokes and Kelby the first team to pass the new Versatility packages for 2015, Package A on Saturday and Package B on Sunday.  And they did them flawlessly, inspiring the rest of us to keep training.

Two teams had successful move-up weekends:  Jewel passed Apprentice and Working, and Miles passed Junior and Apprentice.  We also witnessed another great Versatility performance.  At the end of Saturday’s trial Cathy Gadd and Ziggy tackled the Versatility Package A with Pat Vokes judging.  What a great team.  Watch for them in the Superdog competition at the National Specialty.

See you in Frankenmuth,

Stan Liebaert

June 27, 2015: "Paint Your Pet" Fundraiser

We held a successful fundraiser at Pinot’s Palette in Rochester Hills, Michigan to benefit “Puppy Eye Snydrome”.  Puppy Eye Syndrome (PES) is a syndrome that includes microphthalmia along with other non-related eye conditions.  Commonly, neonates present as “failure to thrive” and breeders may be unaware of this condition as the cause.  Affected puppies that survive past weaning typically have a shortened life span with a variety of health problems reported.

We raised over $250.00, which will be sent to the PWD Health Foundation earmarked for PES research!

June 13, 2015: Annual Picnic

The annual picnic is always a great time and this year was no exception.  It's amazing how well all the dogs play together off leash; running, swimming and chasing each other.  The food and company was amazing as well.  A big thank you to Scott Lenz and David Swank for opening their home to the club once again!

April 25, 2015: BARF Seminar

The GLPWDC brought in Mr. Robert Mueller, co founder of BARFWORLD and a pioneer in the raw food movement with Ian Billinghurst, to guest speak on April 25, 2015. His free presentation demonstrated the advantages to feeding a raw diet vs a commercial kibble diet.
